Dr. Sarah Clews
(Sez)

I'm a lifestyle block veterinarian dedicated to helping owners provide the best possible care for their animals. My approach is built on evidence, compassion, and respect — because I believe understanding each animal as an individual is the foundation of genuine wellbeing.

Every patient, regardless of species or perceived value, deserves thoughtful and informed care. I've devoted my career to educating owners, supporting fellow veterinarians, and raising the standard of animal husbandry for small block animals across New Zealand.

What I Offer

Care a Paddock
Simply Can't Provide

Treating animals on-farm has its limits. My dedicated hospital facility allows a level of intervention, monitoring and welfare that isn't possible in a paddock. I routinely step in to help with:

Why choose Tasman Lifestyle Vet Hospital
Complex Medical & Surgical Cases Advanced diagnostics and interventions, tailored to each individual animal's needs.
Advanced Symptomatic Support Access to stronger, hospital-only treatments — IV fluids, powerful IV pain relief and anti-nausea — to dramatically improve welfare.
Recumbent (Downer) Animal Care When an animal can't stand, it risks severe nerve and muscle damage. I provide intensive nursing, specialised lifting and physical therapy.
Re-Feeding & Recovery After anorexia and weight loss, re-feeding syndrome can be fatal. These patients need close monitoring and carefully staged support.
Maternity & Newborn Care 24/7 monitoring and immediate help for high-risk pregnancies and difficult births, plus intensive care for vulnerable newborns.
Wound Recovery Clean, dry, sterile indoor environments — essential for healing complex wounds or stubborn foot rot.
My Facilities

The Best of Both Worlds

Recovery takes both physical treatment and mental wellbeing — so my hospital is built around a unique dual-environment design.

Indoor Hospital Care A secure, climate-controlled indoor facility designed for close monitoring, sterile wound management, and maximum warmth and comfort.
Outdoor Recovery Paddock For ambulatory patients, a secure outdoor paddock lets them graze naturally — boosting mental health and encouraging a faster return to normal behaviour.
The Tasman promise

World-Class Care,
Personal Connection

"While your animal is with me, they are my highest priority. They'll experience premium comfort, warmth and genuine affection from a vet who loves them as much as you do."

I know how stressful it is to leave a beloved animal in hospital. To keep you connected, I promise:

Frequent Updates You'll never be left wondering how your animal is doing.
Visual Progress Regular photos and videos of your animal's recovery, keeping you involved every step of the way.

My 3-Step Pricing Process

Hospitalising a farm pet can feel financially unpredictable. But once you factor in repeat on-farm visits and travel fees, hospitalisation is often the most cost-effective option — with continuous, premium care under one roof. Here's how I keep you in control:

1 Initial Consultation & Transport Your animal is assessed on-farm for safe travel, then collected and brought to the hospital. You'll get a clear, upfront estimate for this phase from your first enquiry.
2 Tiered Estimates for Your Goals I offer clear options across different tiers of diagnostics and treatment, each with my best cost estimate — so you choose the level of care that fits your wishes and budget, without judgement or pressure.
3 Staged Costing — No Surprise Bills As treatment progresses I refine estimates and discuss evolving options in real time. You stay in complete control of every decision, every step of the way.
Referrals & records

Seamless Care,
Every Step

As an Advanced Technical Service, I work alongside the wider veterinary community and always review your animal's medical history before or upon admission. Here's how it works for your situation:

Referrals and records
You Self-Refer I welcome self-referrals in many cases. Reach out directly to discuss your options — if I move forward, I'll contact your GP vet to request your animal's medical history.
Your Vet Refers Ask your current vet to submit a referral directly to me, and they'll forward all records across.
Never Seen a Vet Before No referral needed. As a referral facility, I'll help set up an account with a local GP vet of your choice, so I can safely hand over care and records on discharge.
Closing the Loop Your primary vet stays part of your animal's long-term care team. Once your case is wrapped up, a complete copy of my hospital records, treatments and discharge notes goes straight back to them for a seamless transition home.
Dedicated Poultry Healthcare

Expert Care for
Your Backyard Flock

I offer comprehensive, dedicated care for backyard chickens — covering both general practice and hospitalisation, with no referral required. While I am fully equipped to provide hospital care, I highly recommend on-site flock visits wherever possible.

Seeing your birds in their home environment provides the context needed for an accurate diagnosis, while keeping stress to an absolute minimum for your flock. From medical and surgical cases to parasite management and general health consultations, your birds will receive the high-level, compassionate care they deserve from a vet with a genuine passion for backyard poultry.
