Meet Dr. Sarah Clews (Sez)!

I'm a deeply compassionate, highly knowledgeable lifestyle block vet, with expertise in small ruminants (sheep and goats), backyard pigs, poultry, and camelids. What sets my approach apart is a dedication to understanding each animal as an individual and providing gold-standard care grounded in the best available veterinary evidence and practice.

I carry a high level of respect for every patient and their carer, regardless of species or value. I've dedicated my career to educating clients, empowering them to advocate for their animals, and supporting the veterinary profession to encourage a higher standard of preventative animal care across New Zealand.

Whether you're seeking guidance or a second opinion on a case of ill health, or looking for support in proactive animal husbandry and management, my goal is to equip you with the knowledge and confidence to care for your animals and improve farm animal welfare.

Expertise & Current Research

I specialise in providing an exceptional standard of care for sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, and camelids working alongside you and your primary vet, where appropriate, to achieve the best possible outcomes for your farm pet.

While my general expertise spans small ruminants, pigs, and backyard poultry, my current areas of special interest include:

• Obstetrics and neonates

• Lamb and goat kid rearing

• Lameness and hoof wall quality in sheep and goats

• Backyard poultry medicine and surgery

• Lamb “bloat” and colic

• Chronic rhinitis (nasal inflammation)

My work continues to evolve as I focus on improving both preventative and responsive care for these species. I'm particularly interested in how animal husbandry, nutrition, and early intervention can improve long-term health outcomes and farm animal welfare.
