At-Home Pregnancy Test Strips
Managing pregnant ewes and does with stage-appropriate nutrition and well-timed health care is important — but finding out whether they're pregnant isn't always straightforward, with skilled ultrasonographers scarce and bloodwork expensive.
The P-TEST Pregnancy Strip is a simple, fast test that lets you check pregnancy from the convenience of your own block using a urine sample. It detects the pregnancy hormone estrone sulfate and gives a visual result through a colour change on the test strip.
The P-TEST rapidly analyses estrone sulfate, a pregnancy hormone found in urine. Briefly dipping the test strip into a prepared urine sample causes the test pad to change colour, allowing the result to be read visually.
Prepare the sample. Store urine in a closed container at room temperature for 30 minutes before testing.
Dip the strip. Dip the test strip into the urine for a few seconds, making sure the blue pad is completely wet.
Lay it flat. Withdraw the strip and position it horizontally.
Allow to stand. Keep the strip at room temperature and avoid direct sunlight.
Read the result. Read at 1 minute and again at 10 minutes according to the result table provided.

Safety first: Always wear gloves and wash your hands well afterwards. Do not collect urine if you suspect Leptospirosis in your animals.
Gently massage the skin just below the vulva in an upward motion. Many ewes and does will pass urine within 60 seconds. An old soup ladle comes in very handy.
Goats and sheep urinate 5–6 times a day. Keep a clean cup ready first thing in the morning, after feeding, or when they stand up after resting.
For animals that won't let you near while they urinate, insert a clean, soft piece of foam attached to a string just inside the vagina for a few hours. The foam should be approximately 2 × 2 inches so urine passes over it. Retrieve it and squeeze out the urine.
Occluding the nose of the ewe or doe for 10–30 seconds can trigger a reflex to urinate shortly after release. Some animals respond to a short breath-hold while others may resist. Do not repeat frequently or extend the duration if it isn't immediately successful, due to the stress placed on the animal.
Storage: Store at or below 20°C (68°F) in a dark, cool, dry place. Avoid moisture and strong sunlight. Reseal unused product in the packet during storage. One-year shelf life.
